Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1872. THE VIENNA EXHIBITION, 1873.
In a New Zealand Gazette, dated 23rd Sept., appears a memorandum by the Colonial Secretary, drawing attention to a letter from the Agent General on the subject of the International Exhibition to be held in Vienna in June ot next year. The Government consider ft will afford an excellent opportunity for disseminating accurate information regarding the resources ot the Oniony, and its advantages for a field for immigration, and desire, therefore, that its products should bo well represented. Articles for exhibition will require to be shipped not later than the 15,th of January next; hence promptitude is necessary on the part of intending exhibitors. The Collectors of Customs have, been instructed to receive exhibits, and all expense of transmission of approved articles will bo defrayed by the (rQUincnont. ft Competitive
hibition of staple articles of produce is to open at Ohristchurch on the 15th of December, advantage will be taken of it to send the best exhibits to Vienna, so that persons desirous of having such articles forwarded should in the first instance send them to the Ohristchurch show. The list includes the following articles : Wool and woollen goods Phormium fibre and cordago Paper pulp Grain, whole and ground Grass seed Malt Hops Preserved fruits and jam Preserved meat and fish Salt beef, ham, and bacon Butter and cheese Tallow and soap Hides, leather, and glue Tobacco The articles will be arranged for exhibition under the following classes : i. Minerals, such as— Metals and metallic ores Coals, rock oil, &c. ii. Raw Produce, such as— Grain, seed, and hops Wool, hides Phormium fibres, timbers Gum, whale oil, nnu bone Shells for inlaying, &c. in. Manufactures — Mats and cordage, doors and sashes Malt, flour, and meal Preserved meats, fish, and fruits Salt beef and pork Soap, wines, and spirts Leather, glue, and tallow Tobacco and cigars, &c. IV. Maps, plans, photographs Ethnological aud natural history collections. Wool intended for exhibition should be, if passible, in whole fleeces, and the following information supplied : By whom shown—as owner or breeder Breed of animal Ago Sox Where bred By whom If imported —Date of importation Whence from Age when imported Date of this shearing Date of previous shearing When washed, and how, previous to this shearing If ever diseased When dipped, and the materials used for dipping Weight of fleece Length of staple If stapled—varieties of wool into which it is classed, with their respective weights Price—average realised for previous clips of same flock Where sold and how. There is no reason why Hawke's Bay should not be well represented in departments 11, 111, and IV, and particularly in the item of wool. Mr. Tabuteau will be glad to receive articles from intending exhibitors.
