Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1871.
A very refreshing fall of rain took place during yesterday afternoon and last night, the beneficial effects of which will, we believe, be universally felt.
On Monday evening last, (writes a porrespondent), the fourth Tent of the Independent Order of Rechabites in this Province was opened at Waipukurau by the Rev. R. Taylor, P.C.R,, assisted by several officers and brethren of the Rose of Sharon and Lily of the Valley Tents Ten candidates were initiated, and the following pfficers were elected for the first' term: — Rev. G. M. I). Irvine, C.R.; G. Grant, D.R.; J. Pettit, Secretary; J. Andrew, 8.5.; J, Palmer, OS.; J. H. Sims, guardian; J. Pitzpatrick, Levite. The new Tent was named the " Excelsior." Brother Taylor addressed the officers and members on their respective duties, and declared the Excelsior Tent duly opened. We would direct the attention of owners of unregistered dogs to a notice which appears in pur advertising columns this evening, signed by the Inspector of Police, ;
The mail steamer Nebraska is appointed to leave Auckland for Honolulu on Thursday, sth October, conveying the outward mails for Europe, America, &c, via California. The Hawke's Bay portion of the same will be forwarded hence by the s.s. Napier, which vessel will steam for Poverty Bay and Auckland to-night. The mail will close at the Port office at 8 o'clock this evening. The next English Mail via Suez will be due in Melbourne to-morrow.
