GREYMOTUTH.
Saturday, March 18. The Greymouth annual races have commenced, On the first day, Friday, ihe weather was good, but there was a poor attendance, and few horses were entered. For the trial stakes, the order was the following :—Peeress 1 ; Trooper 2; Moss Rose 3. For the Lottery Plate :—XXX 1 ; Gamester 2 ; Robin Hood 3. For the Borough Handicap Peeress 1 ; XXX 2 ; Gamester 3. For the District Plate, Robin Hood 1 j Trooper "2 \ Moss Rose 3. The Hurdle Race was won by Gamester, after a most exciting race. The meeting continues to-day. A man named Patrick Cruise, was arrested to-day for rape committed on a child of 7 years old. He was remanded for a week, and bail was taken.
