Saturday, March 18. The Governor turned the first sod of the Clutha railway to-day iu the presence of 3,0G0 persons. The proceedings went off quietly. He will remain iu town till the races are over. There will be a public ball an Thursday. The citizens have petitioned the Superintendent to take steps to prevent ithe spread of scarlet fever. The Alharabra and the Gothenburg are still outside the heads, and are unable to enter on account of the dense fog. Wheat is in good demand ; the supply is short. Oats are steady. The consecration of Bishop Neville is fixed for the 20th May.
