Hawkes Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. THURSDAY, 9, 1871. PROVINCIAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS.
HAMPDEN. The nomination of candidates took place on the 3rd inst. Little interest appeared to be taken in the proceedings, only four electors being present, and some of these not arriving until long after the appointed hour. The writ having been read by the Returning Officer {Mr A. St. Clair Inglis), the following propositions were made : Henry Hamilton Bridge. Proposer, Mr H B. A. Duncan; seconder, Mr R. M. Glenny. George Gwavas Carl yon. Proposer, Mr J. Matthews; seconder, Mr J. Howard.
The show of hands being equal—two for each candidate—a poll was demanded on behalf of Mr Bridge, whicb. will take place on Tuesday next, 14th inst. PORANGAHAU. The nomination took place on Mon day last, 6th inst. Owing to the flooded state of the rivers very few electors were present. The Returning Officer (Mr W. Hunter) ha\ing read the writ, the only nomination was— John Davies Ormond. Proposer, Mr J. D. Canning ; seconder, Mr A. Lambert. No other candidate being proposed, Mr Ormond was declared to be duly elected. WAIPUKURAU. The nomination took place on Tuesr day las% 7oh inst. The Returning Olii cer (Mr Inglis) having read the writ, the only candidate proposed was— Sydney Johnston. Proposer, Mr Mr A. Grant; seconder, Mr H. It. Russell.
No other candidates being proposed, Mr Johnston was declared to be duly elected.
WAIBOA. The nomination of candidates JU fixed for to-morrow, at noon.
