Resident Magistrate's Court.— This morning R. Marshall, of Meanee, was charged by R. G. Hawes, of the same place, with having fired a gun at him with intent to murder.—The case was not gone into, but adjourned until to-morrow morning. ArtiUiERY Band —This band will perform opposite the Heralcj. office at 8 o'clock to-morrow evening. On Monday morning the line was found to be down south of Featherston, and in consequence of the inclement state of the weather and the Hooded rivers, the damage has not yet been repaired. When communication is restored we may look for a u rush " of Southern telegrams.
The New Zealand Gazette of the 2nd inst. contains the amended Regulations for the examination of candidates for the civil service, the regula tions of 1868 being rescinded. Jt also contains, among others the following appointments : Singleton Rochfort, Esq., to be Examiner of Titles under the Land Transfer Act for the Land Registration District of Hawke's Bay; Hanson Turtori, Esq., to be Registrar of Deeds and District Land Registrar for the District of Hawkes Bay; Ef. B f Sealy, Esq., J.P , to be a Resident Magistrate for the District of Napier and Waipukurau; Edward Lister Green, Esq., to be curator of Estates of Deceased Persons for the Province of Hawke's Bay, vice if. T. Tylee, Esq., resigned. The same Cl-azette contains the notification that Karaitiana Takamoana has been duly elected to the House of Representatives for ihe Eastern Maori Electoral Dis trict,
