CHRISTCHURCH.
Thursday, Jan. 12. The nomination of candidates for the representation for City East in the General Assembly took place at noon yesterday, when A. Duncan, Esq., (exMayor), and E J. Wakefield, Esq., were duly proposed and seconded. The show of hands was declared to be in favor of Mr Duncan, whereupon a poll was demanded on behalf of Mr Wakefield, which will take place on the 18th inst. It is fully expected that his Honor the Superintendent (Mr Rolleston) will be re-elected for the District of Avon without opposition, Cedano has been fully committed to? take his trial for wilful murder, Mr Wynn Williams and Mr E, Riehard-son were nominated for City West in the General Assembly at noon today. The show of hands was declared to be in favor of Mr Williams. Mr Richardson demanded a poll, which, will take place on the 18th inst. The funeral of the girl murdered the oilier day was largely attended.
