TAURANGA.
"Wednesday, Jan. 11. The overland mail between the Thames and this place is a complete success; it makes the journey in thirteen hours. Pene Taka, chief of the Piriraka, has visited Te Papa, and was much delighted at his reception. He was received by the European settlers. Pene asserts peace throughout Tauranga. The Ngaetirangi tribe refuse to visit the King. Thursday, Jan 12, 4.7 p.m.—The king's messenger is on his way to Tauranga. Great excitement in Waikato. Europeans preparing to arm. Heavy floods in various parts of the country. The overland mail from the Thames has been stopped by the floods. The steamer Samson (supposed to be the bearer of the San Francisco mail) is sighted.
