From Greville ft Co.'s Telegram Company. (Router's Agents.) CANTERBURY. Wednesday, Nov. 9. The weather is beautiful. The agricultural show to-day was a great success in all its departments, more especially implements. The flower show was also very successful, considering that it is so early in the season. Over JG1,300 has been subscribed in Christ-church towards the relief of the sufferers by the Lyttelton fire. The Society of St. Vincent Pe Paul give a concert to-night in aid of the fund. The races will be resumed to-morrow. There i 3 universal grumbling at their postponement j'esterday. Thursday, Nov. 10. There were one hundred more entries for the agricultural show this year than last. The receipts at the gate amounted to £307 3s 6d,—about 3,500 persons having attended. The cattle exhibited are admitted by competent judges to be the best ever seen in the colony. The horse*\ however, are not equal to the Otago ones. The agricultural dinner last night was numerously attended. Messrs. Moorhouse, Bolleston, Hall, and others spoke. A large and influentially-signed requisition is to be presented to-day to Mr Reeves, of the Lyttelton Times, asking him to stand for the district of Selwyn in the General Assembly, in opposition to Mr Selwyn. There was a crowded house at the Society of St. Vincent De Paul's concere last night. The weather continues beautiful, and a fine day's sport is expected at the races to-day. Peeress and Southern Chief are equal favorites for the Handicap. Envy is favorite for the Derby. Young Austin, the champion runner, won the ten-mile race easily yesterday. Shell bad 600 yards start, but gave in in 38 minutes, having nearly got over six miles. Pentecost, with 600 yards' start, retired after running 700 yards. DUNEDIN. Thursday, Nov. 10. Mr. Maddock, solicitor, was brought up to-day on a charge of embezzlement, and the case remanded to Tuesday. He was admitted to bail. Yesterday, one of Cobb's coaches capsized whilst crossing the Taeri ferry, and killed Mr Eyrie, of Balclutha, who had only been married on the previous day, in Dunedin. Copper has been found at Waitahuna.
