At the last meeting of the Council of the Society of Arte the award of the Albert medal was unanimously conferred on Baron Liebig for his scientific labors of international importance. Found Dkowned. —The bodies of a Mrs Symmons and her son, a boy about twelve years of age, were found in the Hutt 'River on Wednesday, 28th July; and it is believed the woman first drowned the boy, and afterwards committed suicide. The poor woman was lately a lunitic in the Wellington Lunatic Asjlum, and some time ago had attempted to cut her throat. Wo l Washing with Hot Water. — The disadvantages of washing wool with hot water is thus set forth in Messrs Williams, Oerbury and Co.'s wool circular received by the last mail: —'* The svstem of hot water washing, which has been so extensively adopted during the past season in almost all the Australian colonies, is bringing many well-known and favorite flocks into dislavor with buyers The heat of the water opens the staple of all but the finest portion of the fleece, and imparts to the wool a harshness of touch and curliness of fibre to which manufacturers strongly object. It therefore becomes a question for the consideration of growers, how fa>* it i» f° r their interest to continue a practice, which not only fails to improve, the appearance of their wool or to en nance its value, but must at the same tima seriously diminish tUe weight of each fleece,"
