The Command at Patea.—The following is from the Evening Herald:—l he Government have ordered Colonel Lyon to proceed to Auckland on business which may detain him there some time. Major N r oake has received positive instructions to proceed to Patea, and assume the temporary command of the forces there The Major," of course, will still have command of this district. Col. Flax Planting at Wanganui.—The Wanganui Evening Herald says that Mr Finnimore has just finished planting thirty acres of flax on his farm. He has planted it in flat land, and in the area named, with three feet and nine respectively between each alternate row. There are forty thousand plants. The object of leaving the nine feet space is to allow a cart to pass between the rows. Some of the plants have been in the ground for ten days, ano in that time, have sent up young shoots from four to six incehes in length. It is generally supposed that the flax will not be jriown sufficient for cutting before two years, but Mr Finnimore think 3 that it may be cut without injury, and to pay, in little over twelve months.
