Death.—Dr Edward Larwill Humphries, a settler of 20 years standing, died here lately. As a means of breaking up the strongholds of of the rebels in the interior of this Pro'inef, and bringing to a dose the war on the West Coast, we are of opinion that it winrd be desirable to employ the local forces on pay in opening up and constructing a road from this to Patea, by the back of the mountain."
