Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, MAY 17, 1869. PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
The Council met on Friday at the usual hour. On the motion of Mr Ferard several reports were ordered to be printed. On the motion of Mr Sutton a return was ordered of all fees paid by the Boiling-Down Company under the Slaughter-house Act, and a copy of their license. In answer to Mr Dolbel his Honor stated that the amount appropriated for the Waitaha Bridge was insufficient. In answer to another ques tion by the same member he stated that he did not see how as Superintendent, he could use his influence asrainst the removal of the Mohaka blockhouse, the matter being in the hands of the General Government. A bill to repeal the Education Kate Act ; introduced by Mr Sutton, was read a first time, and the second reading fixed for to-morrow. Mr Rhodes moved for a grant of one acre of land at Give for educational purposes. After some debate, in which most of the members expressed themselves in favor of ample educational reserves, the motion was assented to, as slightly amended by Mr Ormond. The Council then went into Committee on the Sheep and Scab Consolidation Bill.
