Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jur are in verba magistri. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1869. YESTERDAY’S TELEGRAMS.

The telegrams received last niglit are of considerable importance. Our pastoral friends will be gratified to learn that the advance in the price of their staple product, previously reported, has been maintained ; and could we hope for a speedy cessation of the Native troubles, a return tp something like our former state of prosperity might be anticipated. Unfortunately, however, the aspect of Colonial affairs is very dark indeed. The murders at the White Cliffs seem to be the opening of a

new chapter of troubles; and fears —we do not know with what reason —are entertained of the rising of the Waikatos. That considerable importance is attached to this news in Wellington is evidenced by a meeting of magistrates to take steps to prevent, if possible, the departure of the few remaining British troops from Taranaki. Let ns hope that by vigorous action the present melancholy state of affairs in this Island may speedily be brought to an end, and peace and prosperity once more restored to our adapted country.
