MILITARY ITEMS.
We are informed that the Sturfc brought 16 recruits of the Armed Constabulary for Wairoa.
The nine mounted men at Wairoa will be employed as patrol* in various parts of the Province, and more will bo enrolled if absolutely required. Lieut.-Col. Lambert, accompanied by S. Locke, E*q., is about to proceed to Taupo on a tour of inspection, and for the purpose of ascertaining the position of the natives in that district. The 20 Maoris lately armed accompany them to Taupo. The garrison, during the absence of the staff, will be under the command of the senior officer, Captain Kennedy. It is intended to keep on pay at Clyde 50 men only. The Wairoa district will be in the command of the officer commanding the Napier district.
In consequence of the absence of Lieut.-Colonel Lambert, the review announced for Saturday is postponed. The men will therefore muster at the usual hour, 6 pm.
