The Hawke's Bay Times. NAPIER, THURSDAY, AUGUST 31, 1865. The Arms and Ammunition Question.

—According to promise we give this day, under the head of “ Spirit of the Press,” two articles from an Auckland contemporary on the above question ; and, for the present, we forbear to make any further remark. The whole of the correspondence has been ordered to he printed, and, in due course, we shall be placed in possession of it; when no time will be lost in laying it before our readers. We may, however, just say that, from the partial knowledge gathered from the reported proceedings in the House, the whole Press are somewhat astray, both in their arguments and conclusions, and they cannot be put right till they get the whole of the data in their possession.

Conversazione This Evening.—The attention of our readers is directed to a notice, to be found in our advertising columns, of a Conversazione or Musical Soiree, to be held in the Government Buildings this evening, iu aid of tire Library of the Athecieum. We trust this effort to provide au intellectual feast for the Napier folk will meet with due encouragement and reward, by a full attendance as, indeed, we believe will be'the case. New Zealand Parliament.—We find it quite impossible to keep up with the reports we receive of the business of the session. We are, therefore, compelled to give reports only of debates on questions of paramount importance. We do not note any such in the latest dates to hand.

Publicans’ Licensing Amendment Ordinance (Hawke’s Bax.) —We perceive that the Governor has withheld his assent from this ordinance.
