ACCIDENT TO THE ZILLAH.
The schooner Zilluh , Capt. Sullivan, arrived in harbour yesterday morning, from Napier, and the East Coast. She left Napier on the 29th October, and called at Crete, Bav of Plenty, on the Ist November, and after taking in a small quantify of cargo she left for Teka Point, at which place she anchored at 730 p.m., on the 2nd. In the evening the wind blew strong from W.S.W., and whilst attempting to get under weigh, the anchor got foul of a sunken rock, which brought the vessel to the wind. She began immediately to get sternway on, and finding that she was too close to the shore to beat out, Cape. Sullivan ordered the cable to bo veered out, but before 30 fathoms were out the vessel struck heavily on some rocks. All the sails with the exception of the topsail, to keep her steady, were secured. About 8 p.m., the rudder head carried aw'ay, and as the wind was then blowing hard, and there was no chance of saving anything, Capt. Sullivan and the crew left the vessel, and went ashore at 12 p.m. On the following morning at 4 a.m. all hands went on board, and discovered a hole in her starbord bow. Some natives were then employed to discharge the cargo, all the gear was taken on shore. On the morning of the 4th there was. every appearance of fine weather, and some planks Were secured to the bow. At low water it was observed that she was much damaged, and the pumps were at once worked. The vessel had then 7ft. of water in her hold. A kedge was run out, and at 7 p.m. hove her off into deep water. The natives then towed her round to Maraitai, about H miles from the point, and got her on the beach at 9 a.m. on the morning of the stb. After replacing the cargo, and making a new iron gudgeon for the rudder, she left for Auckland, and arrived here as above. She brings a cargo of grain, &c.. from Napier and the coast. —Southern Cross, Nov. 22.
