The Waikatos. —We are informed that a deputation of the Waikato Chiefs is expected in Auckland in a day or two, their object being to see the Governor on native matters and to endeavour to “ come to terms.” Wo are further informed that the chief Te Hira of Waikawau has pledged his allegiance to the King party, some of whom had visited him recently. Military. —The head-quarters of the 2nd battalion of the IStli Ilegimeut (Royal Irish) which arrived by the Elizabeth Ann Bright, consisting of 28 officers, and 690 rank and file, will be disembarked this morning at 8 a.m., by means of the gun-boat Sand Fly, ami they will then march to the camp at Otahuhu, where they will be stationed.— Daily Southern Cross, July 4. Wau’A and Waikato. —Our Raglan correspondent who has made a trip into Waikato district says:—“ William Thompson has no thoughts of war in his head if one one may judge from his daily occupations. He is at present down with some of his companions at the mill near Pokeno, superintending the grinding of his wheat with the view of supplying the sinews of war to the troops there stationed.’’ lie says also “About three weeks ago Thompson went up to the neighbourhood of Otawhao to reason with the Ngatimaniapoto chiefs and William King of Waitara, that he found them all ready prepared to go to Pokeno to attack the troops there, that he remonstrated with them for their folly is thus thinking of rushing to destruction ; but that finding them unreasonable he told them to go and take a long and last farewell of their homes, as they would never come back to them, lie then left them and determined not to go.” He further states that the arrest of Aporo is highly popular in Waikato and Waipa, as well as amongst the friendly natives of Raglan and the West Coast generally, and that the only tribe that expresses indignation is the Ngatimaniapoto. —I hid.
