Buead. —"iesterday the bakers’ shops contained an announcement that bread had fallen to Sd. the 4 lb. loaf.— Exauiiner, Oct. 15. Land Sale.— A sale of Crown lands took place yesterday at the Land Office, and realised about £IB,OOO. The land put up was principally upon the Cheviot Hills run, in the Amuri, including the township laid out in Gore’s Bay, and the suburban land on the Eiver Jed ; it was all purchased at the upset , prices by Mr. \V. Robinson. The town land was assessed at £2O tin acre. Some portion of the purchase money will be furnished by the working men’s compensation grants, which the Government have consented to receive in payment for land purchased at Government sales, and many of these grants, which are for £SO each have been disposed of by those who received them, at from £35 (o £lO each.— lbid.
