Otago Beat Canterbury 'HAT TRICK' BY MULC0CK

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Otago beat Canterbury by 89 runs in the Plunket Shield matck concluded at Lancaster Park to-day. Canterbury aftc a iirst-innings iead of 4.1 collapsed in the second innings and were all out foi 141 in reply to Otago 's second inningfscore of 271. At the end oi yesterday's play Otago had scored 105 for the loss of one wicket, the not otit batsmen heing Uttley (74) and J. Robertson (14 k Uttley started very soundly to-day, but when he had added 14 he was deceived by a well-flighted hall from Burtt and was out l.b.w. With Robertson, Chettlebnrgh after a patient start attacked the howling, scoring runs quickly. After the dis missal of these batsmen the side collapsed, Mulcock, the Canterbury med-ium-paced howler, taking the rest of the wickets cheaply, Dicklnson heing the only batsman to play with confldence. Mulcock took eight wickets for 6J runs, including the "hat trick." Canterbury 's attempt to score runs quickly met with little success, McRae (43) and Gasson (38) heing the only successful batsmen. Dunning, who strained a leg muscle while batting, bowled well, though slower than usuai, and in four successive maiden overs took three wickets, his average at the end of the innings heing five for 47.
