GERMAN SOBRIETY SHOWN BY SURVEY

Germans, to judge from recent press comments, have been very surprised to find how little alcohol, comparatively speaking, is consumed in Germany. To judge from the advertisements which meet the eye everywhere, it would be assumed that the quantity is enormous and far in excess of the non-alcoholic drinks consumed. In reality, the statistics of the official organ of the hotel and restaurant trade, the Deutsche Hotel-Nachrichten. show a very different picture. The total con.iumption of nonalcoholic drinks other than plain water last year was 34,200,000,000 liters as compared with 4,608,000,000 liters of alcoholic drinks. -That is the latter constituted only 12,5 per cent- of all drinks consumed.
