(From

Kecord Health-Stamp Saies. .At closing time yesterday at the Waipukurau Post Office, when health stainps were withdrawn from sale, fy toral cf over £80 had been reached, not ineluding donations. This amount exceeds last year's takings and is regardod as highly satkfactory. About £17 wortli oi stamps was sold this week, thc selJers being the following Waipukurau High Sehool pupils: Misses P. Hartland, S. Bell, Nola Matliieson, B. Hutchisan, 1). Wiliiams and Wendy and Gipsy Browne. Waipukurau Eoads Tar-Sealed. The approach to Waipukurau from , the railway station has been greatly iiujxir\ ed by the tar-sealing of the wide area known as Railway Esplanade. This work is now completed, as also is the tar-seab'ng of Northumberland and Russell streets. In February further sealing will be done in Kitchener street, and a small portion of Railway Esplanade at presfnt left undone will be sealed. To-day the roads whieh have been closed while the tar-sealing was in pro gress wero re-opened, but the 'Waipukurau Bciough Couucil is determined to put up barriers again if motorists will not drive cavefully over the new surface. As 1 as been pointed out, however, the thoughtless motorist who speeds over newly-laid bitumen gets his own punishment, for the sealing material now used has exceptional adhesive properties which make it stiek fast. Only after months of cleaning can the blaclc marks be removed from the car. The heat during the last few days has not improved the surface of the newly-sealed roads, whitjh have ehown a tendency to "bleed" to the discomfort of both yehicular and pedestrian trafflc.
