WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. This afternoon Christmas was heral- j ded with nruch merriment and joy at j a delightful party arranged for the j children from Abbotsford Home, Wa1- j pawa, and held at the residence of Mr | and. Mrs A. S. Wilder, Wallingford, j Many willing helpers motored the ctul- j dren from the home, who, on arrival, j gathered on the lawn to await the ar- i rival of Father Christmas. They did not have long to wait, for in a short time the flame of trumpets was heard, and Father Christmas, in his tradition- j al garb and seated in his gaily-bedeck- ; ed sledge, was seen coming up the j drive. After greetings had been extended to all, Father Christmas conducted the children to the Ibilliard-room, to behold a beautifully-decorated Christmas tree, from which each child received.. a present. When all the presents were distributed, the children returned to the lawn tob e treated to ice-creams, followed by a sumptuous afternoon tea, the long tables placed under the trees being spread with edibles dear to the hearts of children, including coloured sof t drinks and a handsome Christmas cake, which was cut by Mrs M. Joblin. Muc.h to the delight of the young folk, a swagger, with his guitar, arrived during tea to keep everyone amused. After full justice had been done to the good things provided, the tennis courts were the next place visited, and here all manner of suitable games were played, the many adults present heing also imbued with the Christmas spirit. A short musical programme was given by the children, which* concludad with the National Anthem and a weary but happy band of children said goodbye and were conveyed back to the home.
