It was rumoured reeeutJy that the United States Government intended to recall liim, because, although he had been familiar with the details of the situation which ended in King Edward's abdication and hia marriage to the former Mrs. Simpson, h'e neglectel to inform the Governme:. ofiicially on the matter. At the time of his death Mr. Bingham was in the United States on siek leave.
