RELIEVING CONGESTION ON SHOW DAYS

The opening-up of- Caroline road as far as Kenilworth road, to provide some relief to the congestion of traffic experienced during Show days at the Tomoana Showgrounds was suggested by the Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society in a letter placed before the Hastings Borough Council last evening. The Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison, said that it would not be possible for the council to tackle this jub 'during the present fiuaneial year, even if it was possible for the proposal to be given effect to. There were certain difficulties in .the way, he said. For exanxple it would mean going into the county and the council could not build any roadway outside the borough boundaries. "Tho co-operation of the Hawke's Bay County Council will have to be securcd before such a scheme can be carried out," he said, and, on his suggestion, consideration of the request was deferred until a later meeting.
