IMPROVEMENTS TO RESERVES

The present is a busy time for the Works and Iteserves Department of the Hastings Borough Council for both are striving to have a number of improvement's eifected to the reserves before the corning holiday period. At the meeting of the council last evening, the engineer, Mr C. E. Evans, stated that the indent order for the pipes required for the completion of the watering schemes for Cornwall Park and the Civic Square had been placed. The sprayers in connection with the same scheme had arrived. The work of constructing the bird pens at Cornwall Park was being pushed on as fast as other work would allow, v/itk the idea of finishing before Christmas if possible. The additional canoes to be placed in the stream at Windsor Park were expected to be linished shortly, and the enjarging of the boat-house was to be attended ro immediately. Construction of additional conveniences at Windsor Park is another matter that it is hoped will be completed by the end of next week. The Superlntendent of Iteserves, Mr J. (r. C. Mackenzie, reported that 4300 plants were bedded out in Cornwall Park and the town gardens for a summer display. He recommended a bicycle staud, to hold about 40 inachines, being placed near the swimluing poo'l at Windsor Park to obviate the necessity of leaving the bicycles lying on the gra/ss, and this suggestion uas approved by the council. The Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison, pointed out that Windsor Park already uas considered to have the linest inotorists' camp in Kew Zealaud, and, when the iurther facilities were provided, it should be even inore popular. "I' rom the „ inquiries that have been made for bookings of sites at the camp of the town clerk and also of the camp uarden^ it appears that this year there wil] be a record number of people there," he said.
