Good Progress Made with Sealing and Concreting ENGINEER'S REPORT "It is expected that the whole of the schedulo will be completed before Christmas." said Mr C. E. Evaus, Boroogh Works Engineer, at the meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening, when reporting upon the progress made with the formation of roads and pathways in the borough. Good progress was made with the sealing of 4i milas of roadway in the borough during the past month or so and last month the following concrete. footpaths were completed: — Jervois slreet. between Princess street and Biverslea Toad, south side; St. Auhyn street, going east from "Willowpark road, north side; Willowpark road. going north from Albert street, east side; Hastings street, going north from Victoria street. east side; Miller street. from St. Aubyn street to Ellison road, east side; Albert street. between Warren street and Hastings street, west side; Alexandra street, between Warren street and Karamu road. north side; Kelson street, towards Williams street. eawt side: .Frevbergr street, going south from Gnscoigne street, east side: Miller street. from Ellison road to Vietoria street, east side; Garnett street. from Bsilway Toad, north side; King street, going north from Fitzroy Avenue, west side; Queen street, from Hastings street to Willowpark road. south side. "The costs involved in the road work show a saving of approximately £669 on the estimates," added the engineer. The Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison. commenting upon the road-work completed this season, said that some 342 chains had been done at a cost of £12 10/- a chain. The work was carried out by the council 's staif and machinery, and it was very satisfactory indeed to find that there was- a surplus on the estimate. He explained that there was a Government subsidy of £562 on the work, which had cost £4204, this amount being out of the borough 's surplus and reserve fund.
