FEES PAID "WITHOUT PREJUDICE"
"It is understood that the depaitment is paying these fees without prejudice to its rights to open up the question in future contracts, on account of the fact that the couneil 's charges are much greater than the average fees charged by local bodies througlioufc the country," stated a letter received from the State Housing Department by the Hastings Borough Couneil last night, regarding the water and sewer-connec-tion fees to be charged for the State housing operations in Akina street. The Director of State Housing advised that the department agreed to the fee of £2 10/- a house for water connections, and. £5 for sewer connections for the contracts which were now in hand, and added the aUovejnentioned proviso. The inspection fee of £l 1/- a house for drain&ge and sanitary-plumbing inspection was agreed to as satisfactory. The communication was merely "received. ' '
