MADAME MERCER GIVES FANCY DRESS PARTY FOR PUPILS

Balloons and streamers of rainbow hue decorated the Yictoria Hall, Napier, Idst evening, when Madame Margaret Mercer gave a very jolly plain and fancy dress party for her Napier and Hastings pupils from Hhe Green Studio. Wearing a lovely frock of gokl guipurc lace, Madame Mercer welcomed the children, parents and friends, and commeneed the party with community singing and games to music played by Mr W. J. Keen, the Rev. W. C. Cameron and Mr A. E. Bedford arranging the children into groups and starting them off, with a merry swing. Mr and Mrs C. O. Morse, the latter wearing a gown of midnight blue embosed georgette, led the grand march, each being partnered by one of the youngest pupil. only a few of the pretty and colourful costumes seen. During the evening Eachel Schofield delighted her listeners with vocal solos; Brian Hasler entertained with a clever elocutionary number; Joan Blewitt gave an exhibition skirt dance, and two popular items were the "Sailor's Hornpipe" and "Irish Jig," danced by Sheila Boardman and Nancy Hannigan respectively to music supplied by PipeSergeant Bergman, who also played for the Highland fling, cleverly danced by two tiny tots, Margery McCallum and Lorna Rayner. "Uncle Charlie" and "Aunt Nin," of 2ZH, led a community sing with some popular numbers, after which Mr C. O. Morse- congratulated Madame Mercer on the work she had done with the children's choirs, and thanking her on behalf -of the civ.c authorities and the people of Napier for the honours brought to the town. Madame Mercer was given^ musical honours, and in a neat speech she thanked Mr Morse for his kind remarks.
