Successful Long-Distance Event

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The Waipukurau Homing Pigeon Club has held a successful race from Dunedin to Waipukurau, an air-line distance of 510 miles. Sixteen birds, representing five lofts, were liberated by Mr A. Esquilant, of the Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club, at 5 a.m. in fine weather. The birds encountered. squally weather on the way home, and in consequenee only two birds arrived home in race time, Mr R. C. Shand trapping Blache at 1.30 p.m. on the second day and Mr T. Spencer Captain two houiv later. The cup presented by Mr J. Skidmore for the bird winning the furthest south race was won by Mr R. C. Shand. Results: — Mr R. C. Shand 's B.C.H. Blanche 23$ hours 1 Mr T. Spencer 's B.C.C. Captain, 25$ hours . . . .i 2
