SIMPLE REMEDIES FOR SUMMER SKIN TROUBLE
1 Among the fruits — and salads — of a iwarm summer there are numbers of jsimple remedies for summer complexlion troubles, states an American writer. j The lemon is, of course, Nature's [supreme gift to the complexions which jare drab, or relaxed and rather greasy, or thick and given to enlarged pores. Its jnice can, however, be substituted jby that of raw gooseberries for the Jmixing of an oatmeal mask for their special treatment. First the skin must b6 washed in itepid water with unscented white soap. jThen the oatmeal and fruit juice paste Is spread over the face like a carnival jmask (eye-sockets omitted) and left ,to work for fifteen minutes. The dried meal must then be scraped and pressed off the skin, which is finally wiped with A little rosewater or distilled water. ' Cucumber is the economical woman's Jrecipe for whitening and cooling tho 'complexion. When its raw juice is mixed with a little rosewater and eau-'de-Cologne, she has a splendid recipe for treating flushed, distressed conditions. When the skin has been cleanscd with cold cream, strips of fine butter inuslin should bo moistened in this lotion and laid over the whole of the jface and neck. For a complexion that is tired £.nd a little drawn, strawberry juice whipfped with a little white of egg makes •a tonic elixir and it imparts a youth•ful glow to any complexion. The juice should be strained carefully through muslin or a sieve. Although it may not be possible to (distil or brew them at home, fioral waters are the best cooling and reviving remedies for English complexions. For th6 treatment of a perspiring skin equal parts of eau-de-Cologne, rosewater, and witeh hazel will remove all traces of moisture, which should never be allowed to remain on the skin, for, if neglected, it impedes the work of the pores and upsets the healthy acticn of the epidermis. Ordinary toilet oatmeal made into a smooth paste with rosewater provides a fragrant face mask for a dry sensitive skin — or indeed for any other. If th6 meal is wetted with ;elderflower water instead, you havo a most beautifying mask for a complexion whieh is ageing or growing •roarse.
