Shops ta Close on Monday Afternoon Hastings sho-pkeepers are to observe the weekly half-holiday on Monday afternoon instead of Thursday during tho week preceding Christmas Day thii year. Realising that to qbserve the half-holiday on the usual afternoon would interfere seriously with the shopping arrangements of the community, the necessary steps were taken to havo the half day changed for that particular week, and these steps were successful. This morning the executive of the' Hastings Retailers' Association received advice from the Department of labour that its application to substituto the statutory half day of Thursday, with that of Saturday during Christmas week had been approved. Subsequently the executive decided to ensure their staffa the usual . half-holiday by observing the half day on the Monday afternoon.
