School Attendance Affected at Waipukurau

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The attendance at the Waipukurau School had not been as good as usual because of the prevalende of a form of influenza among the pupils, statecf headmaster, Mr V. Parsons, in his Teport to the school committee at its monthly meeting to-night, presided over by Mr C. F. Haycock. The primary roll was 403 and the secondary 57, the report continued. . v\ During the month the school was vis« ited by the .senior inspector, Mr Morland, accompanied by Mr Lomas. Tho annual examinations at the school are now taking place. The Training-Oollegc examinations had been held and five pupils from the secondary department had sat for the examination. One pnptl from the secondary department had sat for the Public Service Examination, while seven others would sit for tho school-leaving and University Entrance Examination which would begin on Monday. "On December 15 a parents' day will be held at the school. On that day secondary boys at cricket and afterthe veterans will meet a team of the noon tea will be provided," the report continued. "I should like to thank those who made the radio-installation function a success. Next week is the "learn-to-swim" week and arrangcments have been made to give every child from Standard I upwards some instruction in swimming." During the month the boys of the agricultural class had visited the farm of Mr A. MacCOrmick and Mr W. H. Taylor had given an instructive address on advertising writing, which had been much appreeiated by both teachers and pupils. Accounts amounting to £27 were passed for payment. On the chairman 's motion the committee placed on record its appreci.ation to those who assisted with the radio-installation ceremony, particularly Mr H. M. Christie, M.P., and the Postmaster, Mr Browne. The headmaster and staff were also thanked for entertaining the official party.
