BOOT'S FINE MILE

A fine performance was registered •by V. P. Boot in the mile event at the first inter-club competition conducted by the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association on November 20. With- C. H. Matth4ws to push him along, he covered the distance in the good time of 4.22 3-5, and he thereby enhanced his prospects of inclusion in the Dominion team for the Empire Games next year. Matthews was the pacemaker, but Boot finished with a fine burst of speed to get the decision by 15yds.
