SCULLING CHALLENGE
the australian title COOK WRITES TO PADD0N George Cook, the Parramatta River Club champion, and pacer for Paddon in his recent contest with Alf Burns, has sent the following letter to Evans Paddon, requesting a match for the Australian title: — Dear Evans, — I have been considering challenging you for a match for the title for some time, but, owing to a little difficulty in obtaining the necessary stake, have been prevented from doing_ so. However, I have now made all arrangements in that regard, and would like to make a match for the Australian Sculling Title and £100 a-side. The race to be at .Woodburn. Will you let me know early what date would be suitable. Late in February or early in March would suit me best. — George Cook. Both scullers are of somewhat similar type, being about 23 years of age, over 6ft. in height, and rowing between 12i and 13 stone. Ex- world's champion, George Towns, will probably be in charge of Cook's preparation. Jim Paddon will look after his son's interest. The race should create a lot of interest on the Northern Rivers, as Cook, during his stay at Woodburn last year, made many friends. No reply has been received from Paddon.
