Lewis, in predicting that the United States was entering another "economie tailspin," told a union meeting that workers must organise to obtain the right to work when they wanted to and not when Ford and Chrysler wanted them to. A militant labour movement was essential because the Government had developed a, passiOn for economy while the employers were turning their workers into the streets by tens of thousands. The collecticu voice of Labour must be heard in the Legislature, "where statesmen sit and talk — and sometimes lliink. ' '
