Serisus Injuries Inflicted in Motor-Car ALLEGED ASSAILANT FOUND

DUNEDIN, This Day. A woman, aged 21 years, was seriously assaulted on Saddle Hill road last night in a rental car driven by her assailant. Two motor cyclists passiiig rushed to her assistance, and it is alleged the man in the car fired a shot at them and at the woman when the latter was eseaping from'#he car. xte then made oif to Dunedin# in the car. The woman was taken 'fb a private hospital, where she was found to be suffering from a fractured arm, a wound in the wrist, a dislocated foot, a deep sealp wound in the forehead and back-of the head. Police investigation led to Waitati, where the abandoned car was foundwith the woman 's glove and purse in it at 8.15 this morning and the police found the alleged assailant wandering near an oil company5s premises with a bullet wound in the temple. He was wringing wet as though he had been in the water. He is detained at hospital, but not arrested. The police are not divulging the nam.es of the parties. An inquiry at the hospital reveals that Wilfred Eichard Cnrry was admitted to the hospital at 9.15 with a shot below the eheekbone. His condition is not serious.
