Hospital Costs

"CUI BONO."

Sir, — Your report of the last meeting of the Hospital Board says it was suggested that an X-ray plant be purehased lor the Memorial Hospital at a cost of several hundreds of pounds. I have it in mind that recently applications were called for the posts of masseur and dispenser at a cost of about £430 per annum — and don't forget that per annum means every year. Is it necessary to create all these new and expensive departments? It is the high cost of running them that is so disturbing. Does the board also subscribe to that popular slogan "The sky's the limit"? What is exciting my curiosity most is, how soon after the X-ray is installed will it be found that someone at a salary of another £430 or more is required to run it? When and who may be points of interest. — Yours etc..
