Central H.B. Branch of B.M.S. Gives Final Concert

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. Members from Waipukurau, Takapau', Norsewood, Waipawa, Ongaonga, Ashley Clinton and Wanstead were present at tbe final concert of the Central Hawke's Bay brancb of the British Music Society for tbe 1937 season, wbicb was beld in tbe social ball of tbe Women 's Eest, Waipukurau, on Thursday evening. Tbe delightful programme wbicb was devoted to tbe w»orks of German composers, opened witb tbe pianoforto duet, Fantasia in F Minor (Mozart), played by Mrs P. C. Anderson and Miss H. Johnston, wbo also contributed "Tarantella" (Raff) later in tbe eveuiug. Otber numbers wero contributed as follows': — Choral group, under Mrs P. Eiddle, "Red Eose, Dead- Rose" (Brahms); "Tbe Angel" (Rubenstem) and " Hie Blue Danube" (Strausslj Mrs A, C. Pitt, pianoforte solos, 1 * Rhapsody ' ' (Brahms)', "Lullaby" (Brahms-Grainger), "Tbe Spinning Song" (Mendelssobn); vocal solos, "Tb6 Almond Tree„" "Lady Bird" and "Evening Song" (Scliumann), blrs H. E. Goats; Mrs J. L. Bratbwaite, song, "Praise of God" (Beetboven), "Where Falls My B'urning Tear Drops" (Scbumann); violin soloa, "Loure," from 'cello sonata (Baebl and "Melody of Love " (Englemanl, Mr J. C. Windle; Mrs W. J. Gray, Mrs N, Tate, Miss -K, Riddle, and Miss B. Bryce vocal quartette, "Tbe Lotus Flower" and "Maidens Tbrougb tbe Meadows" (Rubenstein). Tbe pianoforte accompanlments were played by Mesdames F. Y. Ward, Gerald Wilson and P. C. Anderson. At tbe conclusion of tbe programmo Mrs P. A. Riddle, chairwoman, spoke in appreciation of tbe excellent work doiie by the Central Hawke 's Bay brancb djiring the past season and expressed tbe hope tbat -tbe 1938 season would sge an increased membership and anotber very successful period.
