"GOODNIGHT"
Station 2ZL Gives Final Broadcast i ( SPLENDID SERVICE ENDS i i Radio Station 2ZL signed off finally ' last night, and is now relegated to those things that have been but are no more. It was with many pangs of regret that a big number of listeners tuned-in last night for the final programme to be given by this popular station which has been taken over by the Government, after providing wonderful and fully-appreciated service not only to this particular district but to hundreds of listeners outside the province. Early in the evening the children 's session was marked by the announeement that this would be the last to be broadcast from the station on Thursday nights but that the service would be continued in' i'uture on Monday evenings from the new studio in the St. John Ambulance rooms in the old Heretaunga Club buildings, the broadcast being made through 2ZH, Napier. On behalf of the children 's circle Mr E. H. Culver ("Uncle Ed") presented the slation-owner, Mr John Holden, with a gold-mounted fountain pen and pencil, and expressed appreciation of Mr Holden 's elforts to provide them with the opportunity to give • their weekly sessions,. A particularly fine programme was provided in the main session, th6 orchestra, bands and many well-known contributors taking part. Though all appeared to be normal there was an unusual atmosphere in the studio, especially towards the signing-off hour when it was realised that there was to be no more broadcasts from the station. Mr Noel Chapman, who has been announcer on Thursday evenings since the inception of the station in 1930 made the final closing announcements and expressed thanks to the many thousands of listeners for their continued support and encouragement.
