CHARMING RECITAL

"Fruit Salad" Presented By Max Studio Pupils "Fruit Salad," a dance redital by the pupils of Miss Constance McDonald,, was given in the Municipal Theatre, Hastings,, last evening. A varied programme of dances and ballets was performed that proved extremely popular with the audience, .and prolonged applause greeted the ' final curtain as an indication that the fecital had met with universal approval." The first. dance was the "theine dance of the recital, "Fruit Salad," a pretty fantasy in which the young dancers appeared in representations of various fruits. Costumes for all the items presented gave evidence of careliij thought, planning, and preparation, and when the dancers appeared on the stage the effect produced was worth the trouble expended to achieve it. . • The next two items showed three of the most popular dancers of the Max Studio in action, Vida Hayes and Ivena Pothan as Death and the Puppet respectively in an iuterpretation of "Danse Macabre,'f and vone of the younger dancers, Joy Thear, who tecently gained the liighest marks in Hawke's Bay at the recent examinations of the Boyal Academy of Dano ing, in a number "The Cowboy." Two dances of sueh wide dilference, with well-known performers, were a- happy choice.
