Hawke's Bay-Manawatu District Gathering PALMERSTOK K., Last Night. Tbe synod of the Hawke's BayManawatu District of 'tbe Methodist Cburcb met in its ministerial committee yesterday morning in the Cuba Street Churcb, under the presidency of Rev. H. J. Odell, chairman of the district, who is the superintendent minister of the Kapier Circuit. Rev. R. B. Gosnell (Hastings) ii the district secxetary. In addition to tbese offieials there were present: Revs. J. E. Leadley (Gisborne), A. E. Waite (Dannevirke), T. Coutsworth (Woodville), C. M. Robcrts (Pahiatua), M. A. McDowell (St. Paul's, Palmerston Nortli), A. Ashcroft (Supernumerary), A. Blakemore (Cuba Street, Palmerston Korth, synod host) C. A. Poston (Asliiiurst), J. H. Afleu (Feilding), and R. E. Pordyce (Sanson Rongotea), The following were also present: Probaticr.er Rev. W. A. Mills (Greenmeadows); honie missionaries, Revs. C. Aker (Halcombe), R. Grice (Foxton), R. Coombridge (Apiti), S., Keen (Waipawa), and J. H. Woolford (Wairoa). After deyotional exercises, the chairman welcomed newcomers to the district and expressed plea^ire at the full attendance of members of the committee. , * The secretary nominated Rev. A. Blakemore as assistant-secretary; Rev. C, M. Roberts was appointed journal secretarj'j Rev. R. E. Pordyce reporter, and Rev. A. E. Waite, corresponding secretary. Rev. W A Mills, a prob^tioner, was duly examined Mr McDowell reported on the trial sejpion, and Mr Blakemore pres'ented thc probationer's booklist and conducted the Hsual examination At tho * afternoon session of the ministerial committee, Rey. W. A. Mills, wlxo had been orally examined 'carlier in the da}$ was fet5ommended to t-he fortlicoming conference to be passed in bis third-year subjeet to his written exam'inations proving satisfactory. Mr J. H. Woolford, a candidate for the miriistry, was examined in theology by Rev. C. M. Roberts. Rev. A. E. Waite presented the report.of the eandidate's trial serinon. The committee deeided to recommend him to the forthcoming confercncc to be received for training. y The report of the principal of Trinity Theologieal College was presented by Rev, C. M. Roberts. The committee ex: pressed " its appreciation of and satis"taction with' the" vrork of the college! Ko objection was raised conccrning any minister probationer or' liome-mission-ary ivith regard to his doctrinal teachings of h'is ability for the work of the Methodist ministry. Rev. A. Ashcroft read extracts from Ihe pastoral resolutions, as published % n the Methodist Law Book.* These resolutions deal with a minister's duties in the liome, the study, the pulpit, among liis people and with regard to his work in tlie care and training of ihe young. These resolutions must be ,iead each year at tho ministerial com'mittee. Rev. T. E. Leadley offered a prayev for re-dedication, after which the journal was signed by the chairman and secretary. 4
