Havelock North Meets

Tall vases of misty catmint, shaded lupins and anemones, with. cream and coral roses on the president's table, made the Village Hall gay for the November meeting of the Havelock North Women's Institute. "Square Pegs," a satirlcal comedy in rhymed couplets, by Clifford Bax, was the choiee of the readers. It was a complete change for most of the iisteners and the swift, witty lines, the contrast of modern slang with sixteen-th-century formality, and the musical voices and clear diction of both readers, -all combined to make a memorable performance. In response to continued applause, Maurice Baring's ' whimsical sketch "Catherine Parr" was read. Mrs Moller and- Miss Ford were finally thanked most- cordially for the pleasure they liad given. After tea, a guessing game provided mucli merriment. The monthly competition results were : nnounced as follows: — Best bloom, Mrs Bridgman's roses 1 and 2, Mrs Smith's palest blue delphiniurn 3; hand-knitted socks, Mrs Greenwood and Mrs Heenan (equal) 1, Mrs Hcenan 3. The tea-liostesses were Mesdames Buclc, Crombie, Dunn, Gleeson, Greenwood and Holmes.
