' A Wet Week-end. '' After a spell of nearly three weeks without rain, a steady fall set in at Waipa i£urau at 9.30 p.m. on Friday and continued . intermittentfy throughout Saturday and Sunday as a light drizzle. The amount of rain was not large, but it •* was -welcorded ' by' farmers and gardeners. Week-end sports throughout the district ,we?e abandoned. Painting of Signs. v. The attitude adopted by the Hastings .Borougli Council regarding the painting pf railway-crossing signs was taken up by somo '.members at a recent meeting of the Patangata County Council, when a request was received from the Railways' Department that the council should paint a crossing sign at Otane. The argument that the 'council had not erected it was advanced, 'but tlie chairman, Mr C. Pattison, pointed out that there was only the one sign in the council 7s district and he thought a coat of paint would* provide the easiest wpy out of the difficulty. The council agreed to' paint the sign. No Pigeon Races, " * Through wet weather during the week-end, the Waipukurau Homing Pigeon Club did hot hold any races.
