Vocal Group of Central H.B. Branch of B.M.S.

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The vocal group; of the Central Hawke's -Bay branch of the British Music Society held their first evening for the year on Friday, when they wero .the guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Riddle, Hatuma, the evening being devoted to the composers of the British Isles. The drawing-room was gay with bojvls of shaded pink iceland poppies and flame ranunculas, and a big bowl of scented wliite rhododendrons being much admired. During an interval a delicious savoury supper was served. Tho supper-table was spread with a Chinese emhroidered linen • cloth and placed in the centre was a posy of rosebuds, arranged in a crystal bowl. The programme was as f ollows : — Songs, "May Dew'' (Sterndale Bennett) and "Orphens With His Lute" (Sullivan), Mrs. H. E. Ooats ; "Song of the Waggoner" (Breville. Smith),' and "The Dinber Courtship" (Eric Cpates), Mr. E. G. Collin; "Deep In My Heart" (Stevenson) Miss Edgar; "A Green Corniield" (Michael Head) and "Linden Lea" (Yaughan Williams), Mrs P. Riddle; "The Roadside Fire" (Vaughan Williams) andl "Wayfarer's Night" (Martin), Mr. N. Tilley; "Turn Ye To Me'' (Highland Traditional) and "A White Lily Grows" (Old English), Miss H. Johnston; "Silent Noon" (Vaughan Williams) and piano splo "Humoresque" (Dorothy Howell), Mrs. Gerald Wilson; duet, "A Lover and His Lass"
(Moeran), Mrs. P. C. Anderson and Mrs. J. I i. Brathwaite, "The Crown of Life" (Gerald Lane), Mrs. W. R, Hopkinson; "The Mshermen of England" (Montague Phillips),* and "Captain Stratton's Fancy"- (Peter Warlock), Mr. E. T. Haldane; "Heaven's Gift" (Cecil Dereham) and ^Wh'at's In the Air To-day" (Robert Eden), Mrs. E. G. Dowrick; "The Lover5 s Curse" and « "I Know .Wliere I'xn. Going" (Herbert Hughes), Mrs. J. L. Brathwaite ; "A Slumber Song of the Maddnna" (Michael Head), Miss B. Bryce; "The Lass With the Pelicate - Air" (Thos. Arne), and "The Years at the Spring" (May Brake), Mrs. R.' D. Clarke; "Sweet Chance That Led My Steps Abroad55 (Michael Head), and "Fair, House of Joy" (Rodger Quilter), IMrs. D. C. Anderson. The pianoforte accompaniments were played "by Miss K.
