WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Eskdale Meeting A jolly evening was spent in the Eskdale Hall last evening, the occasion being the celebration of the Eskdale Women 's. Institute's seventh birthday. This year, the party took the form of a liusbands ' and brothers' evening, when a happy time was spent in'dancing, games, competitions, musical and elocutionary items. An amusing men's competition was "Dressing a Woman in Newspaper" and this was won by Mr. R. Puddle. A limerick on the Women 's.Institute was won by Mr. M. Williams and other competitions wero "Musical circles," won by Miss Wilson and Mr. Olds, "Monte Carlo,^ by Mrs. Bryson and Mr. I. Brown, "Newspaper Couples," Mrs. F. Wilson and Mr. Oi Eddy. Songs, were given by Messrs. Florance and Williams, Tecitations; Mr.s. R.- Williams,. Ijish Jig and Highland Reels, Master Pearce Williams. Musie for daneing afld accompaniments were played by Mrs. Williams senr., -Mrs. Conway and Miss D. Kirkham. Mr. A. Brown aeted as M.O. A special feature was the birthday cake, the gift of the president (Mrs. R. Williams). It was beautifully ieed by Mrs. F. Wilson to represent a birthday partv, and was mueh admired by all. " ( Mr. A. Kiug on behalf of gentlemen present tlianked the ladies for a pleasant evening which cnded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
