WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. At the meeting of the Patangata County Council to-day a request was reeeived from Mr W. S. F. J ohnston, Hautape, asking when the county would be likely to complete the road througli Mrs Logan 's property, giving him access to his pioperty. — The chairman said that an applieation had been made for a subsidy for that road, but it had been refused. The engineer said the cost would be about £3UU, Mr pattison said that if the spepdmg of the £100 set down on the estimates would help, lie had no objection to its being spent. it was agreed to ask Mr Johnston if he would be prepared to contribute to the cost of the road. Mr Julian Jones's notiflcation that he could not continue with his canttact as caretaker of the Porangahau cemetery a3 he had to enter hospital was reeeived. A cireular from the New Zealand Federation of Local Bodies ' Employees, rsuiiders. Oontractors and General Workers with reference to a circular sent out by the Hawlce 's Bay Labourers ' Union was reeeived. Mr Pattison remarked that the circulars were a continuation of the old dispute between the Wellington Union and the Hawke's Bay Union. The communication from the latter body stated that the award would expire in December, and asked the council to meet the union to discuss a new award. "Apparently the Wellington federation, witn whom we have been deanng, us communicating with the Hawke's Bay county. The proposal is that the present agreement be extended to February of next year to enable the Counties' Association to go into the whole business. I think the proper course is to sign the petition. ' ' Authority was giveu for the signing of the petition asking that the award be extended to February. The Hawke 'is Bay County Coiuncil thanked the council for its co-operation in naxious-weeds control. The remaining Bubscribers, tho Waipawa county, was willing to contribute but wished to clarify the basis of apportionment. Mr A. Dinnie advised that the question of lighting the Waipukurau traffic bridge was now no different from when the route — now a State highway — whs a main highway, the cost of lighting being at no thne subsidised. 11 j I ■ mmm.
