Failed to Pay Overtime to Employees TARADALE CASE Convicted of failing to pay overtime toptwo or his drivers, in breach Do an industrial award, a Taradale baker, Henry E. Grant, was nned £7 by Mr. J. Miller, S.M., in the Napier Magistrate's Coiirt yesterday. Two claims were also made against him for penalties of £10 for failure to pay overtime, the Bench awarding judgment to the Inspeetor of Factories for £1 in each instance. The Inspeetor of Factories, Mr. A. E. Wood, prosecuted and Mr. V. J. W. Langley appeared in defence. An inspeetion of Grant's premises had been condueted by an. officer of the department, following complaints that drivers had not been paid the overtime due to ,them. This was found to be correct, and Grant, was ealled upon to adjust the waget. He later returned forms, dated April 26 and slgned by both the drivers concerned, to the effect that this had been done. This, however, had no been done at the time the forms were completed, and had not been paid until after an inspeetion later. It had been discovered from the wages book that zhereas the drivers, with overtir.e due, should have been paid varying amounts approximating £5 2/- they were only getting £4 12/-. The inspeetor then proceeded to call evidenee to this effect. Grant was convicted and fined £7 with 10/- court costs.
