Suggested Training of Police and Teachers
(By Telegraph-
WELLINGTON, Last Night. The opinion that it was very neces•"iary that trainees in the Police Force and in training colleges should be qualified life-savers was expressed at a conference of the New Zealand branch of tbe Life-Saving Society. The appalling number of drownings in tlie Dominion was referred to and the urgency of action being taken was empiiasised. Auckland Uelegates said that, in England, all police trainees took the bronze medallion exam, and the ceBtral executive of the society had even gone to the troublei of designing a special. uniform badge for a medallion to be worn by polieemen. In Australia all polioe trainees were required to pass the bronze medallion exam. or its equivaleiit.
A motion was carried to approach the Minister of Justice with the view that New Zealand trainees should be required to hold the bronze medallion or ita equal. A similar resolution was taken as regard the school teaching profession, whera teachers were physically able to take the exam. The conference noted with pleasure the Minister's intention to assist the Royal Life-Saving Society and took the opportunity urging oir the Governmentthe necessity of providing instruction in life-saving and resuscitation to all secondary school pupils.
