Wellington Burglars Use Too Much Explosive EXTENSIVE DAMAGE

Two loud reports awakened residents in the vicinity of the factory and stiop of J. G. Marshall Itd., 'furniture and upholstery manufacturers,- Newtown, about 11.45 q.m. On Saturday, but it wasn ot till about 10 o'clock yesterday morning that it was discovered thai two safes in the firm's offices had been blown open and money, between £8 and £10, stolen. Carpet and chairs were used to damp the sound, hut an over do'se of explosive was employed and damage to the safes and offiee furniutre was extensive. Th.e handle on one safe was lodged in the ceiling beams, chairs in both offices were wrecked and carpets were ruined. The doors of both safes were blown completely off the hinges and wer-e twisted and crumpled like hrown paper, The safes are so buiged as to be useless except for scrap meta-l. Strangely enough not a pane of glass was broken, though both offices were largely constxueted of glass. The, damage is estimated as between £40 and £50fl. 1 - " V
